Inside Out

“I will run in the way of your commandments when you enlarge my heart!”
‭‭Psalm‬ ‭119‬:‭32‬ ‭ESV‬‬

God does not merely call us to obey His commandments. He desires that obedience flow from a heart that knows Him, loves Him, and delights in His ways. Yet the way we perceive God’s commands can make a great difference in how we respond to them.

  1. A narrow understanding can make obeying God’s Word feel like a burdensome task.
  2. Or, we can see obedience as something that flows naturally from our love for God and our desire to follow His ways.

What is your perception of obeying God’s commands?

The psalmist prays for God to “enlarge his heart.” This is a prayer for God to deepen his understanding, love, and desire for His Word, so that obedience becomes something he willingly embraces. Perhaps this is what enables him to “run in the way of God’s commandments.”

Do you want God to change your heart likewise?

Let us also pray as the psalmist did, asking God to enlarge our hearts and deepen our desire to walk in His ways.

Have a great day! 😊
